Recent statistics reveal that residents of a particular town have an impressive average life expectancy of 82.94 years. This follows previous recognition of the same location as one of Spain's top spots for health and wellbeing.
In Spain's Costa del Sol, Fuengirola stands out as the municipality with the highest life expectancy across the Andalucía region, as per data from Spain's INE national statistics institute (INE). The figures indicate that the average lifespan in Fuengirola is 82.94 years. Not far behind, the adjacent towns of Mijas and Benalmádena rank second and third in the region for longevity, with life expectancies of 82.90 and 82.83 years, respectively.
Cristina Bornao, the town's councillor for Social Welfare, expressed her views on Wednesday, stating, "This information reaffirms Fuengirola's status as a hub of well-being and high quality of life, making it an ideal place for people to settle and pursue their life goals."
Bornao attributes these high life expectancy figures to a combination of the town hall's services and activities for all age groups and the vibrant array of leisure, cultural, and event options offered by the private sector, which continually attracts new residents. The population of Fuengirola has grown significantly, from just over 71,000 in 2009 to more than 85,000 in the preceding year.
She further added, "Without a doubt, it's the premier town for living and realizing our aspirations." Echoing this sentiment, a recent study by the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development placed the town among the best in Spain for health and wellbeing.
