The charming town of Ronda, nestled an hour away from the bustling Costa del Sol, is set to welcome a new attraction that is expected to entice more tourists to the area. Ronda town hall has commenced work on a new gorge walk project called the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo, which is estimated to cost 1.5 million euros.
The project will be executed in two phases. The first phase of the project will include the renovation of an existing route, which will begin at the Casa Manolillo and weave its way down to the base of the 'new bridge.' Once this phase is complete, visitors will be able to explore the scenic surroundings of Ronda from below, offering a fresh and unique perspective of the town.
The second phase of the project is the installation of a 250-meter-long footbridge, which will be suspended three meters above the Guadalevín river gorge. The footbridge will be designed by the same renowned architect, Luis Machuca, who created the Caminito del Rey, one of Malaga province's most famous tourist attractions. This footbridge will offer a spectacular bird's-eye view of the stunning gorge, and visitors will be able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery as they walk along it.
To complete the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo route, visitors will start from the Campillo area and descend the La Albacara path, which has been restored as part of the first phase of the project, to reach the Casa Manolillo. From there, they will continue down to the footbridge, which will be located on the left side of the gorge, and make their way under the 'new bridge' and the 'old bridge.' The route will then emerge at the Curtidurías bridge and end at the San Miguel hermitage.
On May 2nd, Ronda Mayor María de la Paz Fernández, and Works Councillor Concha Muñoz visited the works, which received an investment of nearly 400,000 euros from the Junta de Andalucía. Muñoz expects that the project will take approximately three months to complete.
The Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo is set to be a major drawcard for tourists visiting Ronda, providing them with an unforgettable experience of exploring the picturesque Spanish countryside from a whole new perspective.
