The beaches, hotels, and restaurants along the Costa del Sol are bustling with activity during the extended May Day weekend.

During the extended May Day weekend, which has a distinct August-like feel, the Costa del Sol is bustling with activity as people head to the seaside to enjoy summer-like temperatures. Madrileños have been filling the AVE high-speed trains to Malaga while national and international travelers have been arriving in droves at Malaga Airport. The terral wind sweeping in from the northwest has greeted them with a blast of heat.

According to data from the Aehcos association of hoteliers of the Costa del Sol, the hotels along the coast have almost 90% occupancy rate, with Benalmadena having the highest number of bookings at a bumper 97%. Additionally, Torremolinos has 92% of reservations, Mijas has 89.5%, and Malaga city has 87.7%. The trade organization for the sector has said that bookings for the long 'puente' holiday weekend in May 'show that tourism is recovering to pre-pandemic occupancy levels'.

Tourist apartments are also expected to have similar occupancy levels to the records set during this past Easter and above those of 2019. At Malaga Airport, a record number of flights are expected to operate on the runways. Between Friday, April 28 and Tuesday, May 2, a total of 2,351 flights are expected to take off and land, which is 152 more than in 2019, the best year for tourism in the history of the Costa del Sol.

Even some campsites have had to stop taking in more visitors over the weekend due to high demand. Long queues for beach bars in Malaga, Marbella, Torremolinos, and Benalmadena have also been snaking along for meters.
